NRL – Why Referees deserve more respect

Hello all. Majoritively, I am very negative of the NRL, and the way they handle dramas too severely, aka Storm’s Trophy Heist. I have overreacted a fair bit this year. However I believe that the way NRL clubs, fans and board members are reacting to NRL Referees this year, action needs to be taken. THAT truly is the definition of overreacting. The backlash on referees this year is an absolute farce. Every game that has been determined by less than 6 points has pointed the loss at the referee and the NRL. It is garbage. Teams such as the Dragons, Souths, Eels, Tigers, and the Cowboys have blatantly attacked officials in post match conferences and in the newspapers weekly. Enough is enough. My Top 10 Banjo Kazooie Stage Songs

Hello hello hello. I love myself some Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie. The soundtracks for these games were second to none and will remain one of the top greatest OSTs ever made. I have downloaded a lot of these tunes onto my MP3 and listen to them daily on my way to work. I want to talk about my ten favorites and give out some nostalgia for all Banjo fans out there. I will the pick the ten in no particular order. It is unfair to rate them and I appreciate the fact most people will agree. Here we go!! Continue reading “My Top 10 Banjo Kazooie Stage Songs”

How I Would Have Ended Final Fantasy X

Why hello y’all. Now as a huge Final Fantasy fan (no surprise to regulars), there are a few things I wished I could have changed about the series. Apart from telling the guy “no” whom thought online MMO’s were a good idea, I have always been bothered by the ending of Final Fantasy X. See, Final Fantasy X was an awesome game, with a great story and solid characters. It goes full circle in the end and Tidus forgives his father and Seymour is banished to the Farplane. However there was something gravely wrong with this ending. Continue reading “How I Would Have Ended Final Fantasy X”

Retro Corner – Wrestling is Scripted, Not Fake

Howdy folks. I am going retro. Back in 2011, I started my online columns via a website that is currently obsolete. I happened however to dig through my archives and found one of my first articles. With some adjustments, the article has been updated to meet current standards. Here is one of my most successful, and favorite articles I have written.

This article will be dedicated to all wrestling fans like myself who have all been told the same thing… Wrestling is Fake. No it is not. It is scripted and that is a big difference.

Any person who hates WWE, NJPW, ROH or any wrestling promotion for that matter, will always will say “It’s just fake anyway”. These buzz killers are annoying. We all know that wrestlers follow a script, kayfabe is dead as Vince McMahon always stouts. We love it all the same. Wrestling universes are fantasies that we are absorbed into, with the over the top characters, unbelievable events and fun entertainment. Some people watch “soap” dramas, some people watch “reality” T.V. My world is wrestling. I enjoy knowing that I may be watching an epic battle between superstars, legends or rookies every week; and I love it.

The wrestlers of today and the past are so different in variety and entertainment. In the past, big hulking men battled in an unrealistic, unbelievable contest that it is looked back to being cheesy, and somewhat nostalgic. Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior battled in a most famous contest where wrestling holds were non-existent at Wrestlemania 6, yet their charisma and crowd interaction won them over. Today, wrestlers are world class athletes, entertainers, and perfectionists. All professional wrestlers are masters of the ring, and anything less would be frowned upon and exploited. This brings up my next point, and that is they are real human beings.

Wrestlers sweat, bleed and give their soul in that ring. They take real bumps, feel real emotions, and get hurt. When wrestlers follow script and everything goes fine, there is not a problem, the show goes on. When something goes wrong, we feel pain for the individual, whether they be Heel or Face. You cannot fake gravity, you cannot fake emotions, and you cannot fake real world tragedies. When a wrestler wins the gold after so many years, those tears are real; believe me.

This next part is a little bit closer to me. The real world, aka mainstream media, never shows it cares for pro wrestling and ignores it. That is until there is a tragedy to exploit. If a wrestler dies, or is caught up in legal matters, it is not fine to exploit this for your own media benefits. You have no right to get a story out of tragedy in a world you don’t know. A few years ago, we lost a legend in the Macho Man. In the wrestling world, we mourned and remembered the man as an icon and a great person. In the real world on the news, it was “drugs caused this” and “all wrestlers are dying early” all over… Bull Sh*t.

The wrestling community is not stupid. Yes, drugs were are huge part in wrestling’s past, but I believe WWE and many other companies have done the right thing cutting it out and implementing good health to routine. I applaud a drug free wrestling world and I hope one day that it comes true. Every time a wrestler dies we all feel it. Every time a wrestler gets hurt, we feel it. The men and women in wrestling are real humans and have families that love them more than what we do.

Wrestlers are told what to do, who is going to win or lose, and how to perceive this to the crowd. Just remember, these superstars travel long days, work unbelievable hours, and must be fatigued heavily every week. They grin and bear it for us and I don’t know how they do it. They are incredible. We come to love older stars like Sting, Undertaker, Bret Hart, Goldberg, Edge and Stone Cold for who they are. We also come to hate others like John Cena and Roman Reigns for their push. Yet we respect them and relate to them as real people. The point I have tried to make is that no matter how much smoke and mirrors you use, you cannot fake humanity and respect.

Thank you for reading.

What the Justice League Movie Needs

man of steel

Hey y’all. With news of the Avengers 2, Batman Vs. Superman, and the eventual Justice League movie, I thought it would be an idea to analyze the Justice League movie set for 2017. Now speculation is rampant about what will happen in Avengers 2 and Batman/Superman, however I feel that if anything, it’ll be the Justice League that needs to be the movie that saves DC from international embarrassment via the silver screen. Marvel has far exceeded expectations, after releasing the Avengers to critical acclaim. So how can DC combat this? I have got some suggestions to help aid DC Comics.

Do Not Focus Solely On Batman and Superman

The Avengers did a great job of giving every single character their own story and amount of time on-screen. In a parallel universe, Marvel easily could have put Iron Man on the screen the entire movie and bashed his colleagues. Instead, they went for story and character building around Iron Man. DC needs to do this. Superman and Batman have their chance to grow in their movie. This movie needs greater focus on Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Arrow and/or Martian Manhunter/Aquaman/Hawk Girl. I wouldn’t complain about having any or all of these guys, as long as we don’t get a whole new story about Superman’s past or Batman’s history. We have heard that all before too many times. I want to hear about Wonder Woman, Aquaman etc. Anyone can throw Batman on the screen and make a movie watchable. It is being able to put Batman into the same row as others that will define this tale.

Let DC TV effect the course of the story

I watch Arrow. It is one of the best TV shows I have watched in a long, long time. I am a big fan of the ability DC has to turn an “average” superhero into an absolute star on par with Batman. “Average” villains are also getting the same treatment. Deadshot is a great example, with his epic rivalry with John Diggle. The thing is, the TV show has proven it can tell a story successfully. Arrow has only just introduced the Flash. This mind you is a spin-off for Barry Allen’s own TV show himself. My theory is while Batman and Superman are writing their own tale, let Arrow and Flash build the Justice League via episodic TV. It is cheap and effective. They can save the main “alien” characters for the movie, but there is no reason we cannot get an appearance from Green Lantern on Arrow, or even Lex Luthor. Then there is Deathstroke…

A villain that can captivate and build the JL

Continuing on from last paragraph, the Justice League needs a good villain. Now the Avengers had Loki. Loki is Thor’s brother and not necessarily the biggest nor baddest villain in the Marvel Universe. However it set up for Ultron in Avengers 2 whom is bigger and badder. You must go epic the further and further you go on. That said, who does DC go with? I would rule out The Joker and Lex Luthor by default. That is necessary for a later date against their respective foes. Eventually, JL will come across the ultimate bad guy Brainiac. Until then, I suggest we pick lesser renown villains that still have some big history with team members, such as a Starro, Solomon Grundy, Yellow Lantern Sinestro, Metallo,  Nekron, Ares, or even Ra’s Al Ghul. I have no issue dealing with an enemy that is not a Superman/Batman direct rival. Seeing how this pans out, then JL can go nuts and fight the ultimate baddies who can easily one up our heroes.

Be faithful to the DC comics for a change

In my honest opinion, DC Comics within their TV Anime shows and graphic novels are superior to Marvel (It’s an opinion of mine, we all have them). DC has really struggled to ever portray comic canon on-screen. Superman is always trying to be cutting edge albeit stale on-screen, Batman keeps evolving to be darker and darker, and the other characters have just plain sucked on-screen in general. How can DC counter this? Go with what brought you to the dance. Stay faithful to your rich history that everyone loves. Let Superman be a patriot and a hero, let Batman be socially awkward yet funny at times, let Wonder Woman kick ass and lasso baddies, let Flash be a sarcastic fool, and let Green Arrow… Well let Stephen Amell play him (don’t touch his character at all actually). The point I am making is don’t try so frickin’ hard with these guys. That is why people are annoyed when they watch a movie and are disappointed. Too much change sometimes isn’t for the best. And lastly…

Don’t let Superman destroy another city and kill for no reason. Ever. Again.

Just saying.

Thank you for reading my thoughts on the Justice League movie. I really hope for all of our sakes that DC comics gets this right. Make sure to like, subscribe, and favorite all our stuff, and check out all things DC and Marvel comics here at Pastime Viewpoints.Regards.

The 2014 NRL Rort Draw

Hey y’all. As you probably have gathered from previous articles here at Pastime Viewpoints, I am a Parramatta Eels fan who has been disgruntled for the longest time. My team has been a shell of itself from past days of glory, and are the laughing-stock of the National Rugby League (NRL). We are currently in a “rebuilding” stage and have 2014 to hope for a miracle. Now I know being an Eels fan, I may show some bias on occasion. However I am a fan of the underdog and hope all teams can be a chance. Last year was terrible for rugby league. There was only ever four teams that had any chance of winning. This year will be much the same. Worse thing, the NRL operating staff don’t seem to care nor worry. If anything, it is “justified”. Let me explain.

Last year, the best teams in the competition were Melbourne Storm (as per usual), Manly Sea Eagles (again), South Sydney (after years and years of rebuilding), and the Sydney Roosters (SBW, the NRL’s  prodigal son whom was always going to win). At the bottom of the ladder, you had Parramatta (again), St George Illawarra (a team struggling to regain its footing), Wests Tigers (transitioning and rebuilding), and Canberra Raiders (who really tried this season).

Looking through the draw, I note the top 4 teams play the bottom 4 teams almost twice, whereas barely play any other competitive teams the same. If it is, it is during Origin when no one cares. I don’t like the Tigers, Dragons, and this year especially, the Raiders, yet they have absolutely zero chance this year of rebuilding with the odds stacked against them.

In response, the NRL’s General Manager of Operations, Nathan McGuirk, has said “We don’t put any weighting within the Draw that takes into account a team’s previous year performance. We have seen many teams in the past turn around performance within a year, from the bottom of the ladder to then make the finals.” What a bunch of garbage!! You virtually state you do not care about team’s that are struggling.

In comparison, when asked about the Broncos cushy “Friday Night Fever”, the response was much differing. McGuirk said of Broncos many Friday Night games, “I’m sure you would agree that Channel 9’s financial commitment to the game over the next four years should allow them to select match-ups that maximize their commercial return on investment. 2014 will see the Broncos appear a maximum of 18 times on Free To Air”. Easily put to those who do not follow; $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Money speaks all languages when it comes to football. teams such as Dragons, Tigers, Parramatta and Canberra are not financially credible. Where Manly, Melbourne and Brisbane are best for business. We are watching a game that is pre-determined by cash flow and it sickens me. My team will suffer in the “rebuilding” stage until they are worth an investment. As if facing AFL out Western Sydney wasn’t hard enough, the NRL doesn’t even believe in the West. Same goes for Penrith, another team who really tried their backsides off last season to no avail. I bet if another team bought a high profiled player like Sonny Bill Williams, they would get a much favorable draw and spotlight…

There you have it peeps. Thanks for reading my thoughts on the NRL 2014. I will soon see how right I was. Make sure to like, subscribe, and favorite all our stuff, and check out all things entertainment here at Pastime Viewpoints.

Top 5 Questions Leading Into Walking Dead Season 4 2nd Half

S’up y’all!! Zell here after a wild Sunday night of The Walking Dead Season 4 Mid Season Finale. Lots of action followed by lots of story line development paved the way for the gang to exit the prison, however in separate groups. The only thing that AMC’s Walking Dead achieved is doing what last season’s finale failed to do; excite. People are talking, and mainly about the millions of questions that Sunday’s episode begged. In saying that, the 5 biggest questions personally leading into the second half of Season 4 are listed below. Make sure to take the poll below and like us here at PTVP.

1. Is the group going to join back together at the Alexandria Safe Zone?

Rick’s group is now split into several groups. The folk from Woodbury whom escaped on the bus with Glenn, Rick and Carl running up the hill away from the carnage, and the kids, Beth, Tyreese, Michonne, Maggie and Daryl’s presence left in mystery. Similar to Season 2 after Hershel’s farm, the group is split and more than likely will regroup soon after. The question is where? There are no local landmarks and the groups evacuation plans were never discussed. I am gathering that after Sunday night’s finale, the comic is being followed once more. After the prison, we hit the road for a bit, before arriving at the Alexandria Safe Zone, where the comic book is currently at. I see the group joining together back there in a safe community. Will the creators do this though? They really don’t have nothing to work with if so. We will find out in February I suppose.

2. Who can follow up from The Governor?

The Governor is dead. Punched by Rick, stabbed by Michonne, and shot by Lilly. The question is, with The Governor dead, who is the next antagonist going to be? After Shane, Governor did well to carry the series as the villain you love to hate. Even love to love in many cases. Will there be an immediate threat? Or will there be some form of peace for a while? I remember vividly the proceeding antagonists after the prison were the cannibals, followed by the baddest dude in the world; Negan. We don’t know if this will happen, or even if they hold out until Season 5 which has been signed up for. Simply put, who can follow up from David Morrisey’s Governor?

3. Is Rick’s daughter Judith still alive?

Lots of controversy here peeps. The rocker was covered in blood, the baby was missing, and her family was devastated. But is Judith really dead? Sure there was a lot of blood, yet anyone taking a head shot could have filled that empty cradle. Beth, whom was Judith’s primary carer, ran off the bus for a mystery purpose. Was that to rescue Judith? Then the other kids in the complex. Did they go back after saving Tyreese to help Judith out? On the following episode of Talking Dead, there was no mention of Judith’s death. I get the feeling she still lives. I may be wrong, however the second half will elaborate more than I can.

4. Will we see Carol again?

I sure hope so. The impending meeting between Tyreese and Rick in regards to his girlfriend’s killer was about to happen before The Governor destroyed the prison. Tyreese will find out no matter what eventually. The question is, will we see Carol again? And if so, how will Tyreese react to the news of her doing the “evil” deed? Unlike the comics, Tyreese and Carol have both survived the prison and are both in uncharted waters now. The story development for both characters will be great and I cannot wait.

5. Will the second half be better than the first?

We have got the ending we wanted at the prison. It’s over. I can honestly say this season has been living up to the hype to date. The question is similar to last season, can we keep up the momentum? Will we get the best complete season since the first? We will be getting new characters in Abraham and Eugene (this will be great). Lilly and Tara will also be in some way still be around and joining Rick in the future. The Woodbury sick survivors are also still alive. We have a lot of survivors to work with here. I sure hope that Robert Kirkman and crew give us one hell of a home stretch for the season by building up a few of these characters. The loss of Hershel hurt. Now it is time to run with the ball and make new characters we love. Also, don’t forget about the zombies…

Thanks for reading my thoughts on Walking Dead Season 4. I will soon get caught up on the comic book and review that as well. Make sure to like, subscribe, and favorite all our stuff, and check out all things Walking Dead here at Pastime Viewpoints.
